Individual Assignment

Each individual is called upon to find their own significance; every individual’s life has an ‘assignment’. Entire yoga, and entire psychoanalysis, both only represent support, company on the way there, but not more.

When I come to introduce a new procedure in chapter now, which is just the same only an aid, or a companion, then what it does is build on a comparison of yoga and psychoanalysis, whereby its gain is in establishing a safe platform for this approach to this complex of Other’s attention / ‘assignment’.

Raised titles for Param Sant Satgurus are then no longer required, and it is no longer necessary to study all of the psychoanalytic institutions. Self-study and self-experience as well as a simple exercise procedure, a training in perception, may all substitute such aspects.

Sociological work, such as by D. C. Lane or philosophical explanations on Sant Mat, such as by M. Juergensmeyer, may serve as valuable factual aspects, but they do not empower a working procedure.

1 Nevertheless, we do recognize ‘problems of succession’ in psychoanalysis. Freud, for instance, intermittently regarded C .G. Jung to be his favorite pupil and ‘successor’, but what counts at the end of the day is scientific work, and just transference together with its dissolution, or structural coincidence in the unconscious and its scientific description as an actual ‘legitimacy’.

Lacan’s precise elaboration evidences that this ‘analytic discourse’ stands diametrically against the ‘universal discourse’ and its ‘legitimacy’ through pure ‘savoir pour savoir’. 2 The same goes for ‘legitimacy’ in Sant Mat.

Footnote:
As a matter of interest in this issue, though not quite that important, D. C. Lane made himself known as a devotee of such a ‘legitimized’ master, while Kirpal Singh belongs to the ‘sociological’ other category.

My attempt is to present a psychoanalytic work in which a practical ‘remedial procedure’ is the aim, and it is here, that Kirpal Singh’s Surat Shabd Yoga provides for ideal comparison and support.
